Berlin-based field recordist and artist Pablo Diserens concludes their ambitious Ice Series with the 2025 release of ebbing ice lines, an eight-track album issued through the forms of minutiae and Dinzu Artefacts labels. This final installment aligns with the United Nations’ declaration of 2025 as the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation, serving as a sonic document of the Low Arctic’s rapidly changing landscapes. Assembled from recordings captured across Iceland and Finland, the work navigates environments ranging from the shrinking Sólheimajökull glacier to the volcanic activity of Fagradalsfjall. The double-LP format presents a geologically-rich soundscape where the release of ancient air bubbles from melting ice creates a delicate symphony of abstract chimes and percussive drips. These geophonic elements are layered with the biophony of rock ptarmigans and the vast, dronesque roars of shifting earth, blurring the lines between pure phonography and electroacoustic composition.
