VI

Released in 2025 on the Brussels-based Unfathomless label, VI is a four-track album by closing., the experimental project of Brooklyn-based artist and Modern Tapes founder Patrick Scott. The work is constructed from field recordings captured throughout 2024 in the vacant interiors of theaters, arenas, hotels, and airports across North America and Europe. These environmental captures were transferred to cassette tape and manipulated through real-time collage techniques using a Fostex X28h and speed-modified handheld players. The sonic architecture is further defined by double bass contributions from Jeni Magana, processed through a hardware chain involving modular synthesis and analog saturation. Situated within the Unfathomless catalog as release U91, the album continues the label’s thematic exploration of phonographies that reflect the memory and resonance of specific places. The project’s stark, bleached aesthetic aligns with its blend of industrial textures and musique concrète, grounding Scott’s sound design in a rigorous, location-based methodology.
