In 2024, the German project HELLBERG released K.W.Ö., a two-track album that situates itself within the deeper recesses of contemporary dark ambient and drone. Issued as a self-released production, the work follows the artist's established pattern of utilizing hand-assembled, highly limited cassette formats for their physical output. HELLBERG’s aesthetic is defined by a dark ambient and doom drone approach, creating sonic worlds that explore musical abysses through smoldering textures and shadow-laden melodies. The release contributes to a prolific year for the artist, appearing alongside other 2024 works such as Bodam and Wiederbringer. Sonically, the album balances minimal drone with field recordings to construct an atmosphere of 'oppressive beauty' that feels both alien and hauntingly alive.
