Plein Soleil

Paris-based sound artist Jonathan Fitoussi released Plein Soleil in 2020 through the Obliques and Transversales Disques labels. Fitoussi, whose practice is informed by minimalist and contemporary musical forms, utilizes this nine-track album to explore the fusion of analog synthesis with acoustic sound sculptures. The sonic palette is defined by a rigorous selection of hardware, including the Buchla modular, EMS Synthi AKS, and Moog synthesizers, which are layered against the resonant glass and metal of the Cristal Baschet. A significant portion of the record was produced at Studio Prismes in Paris, though the closing piece, Totale Eclipse, features recordings of piano and Baschet instruments from the 2017 Venice Biennale. The release is presented in a deluxe gatefold vinyl format featuring the 1967 artwork Constellations by Victor Vasarely, reflecting the album's geometric and cinematic aesthetic. Positioned within the lineage of French avant-garde and modern ambient music, the work highlights Fitoussi’s ongoing engagement with the legacy of figures like Eliane Radigue and Bernard Baschet. As a cohesive study of melodic textures and modular exploration, Plein Soleil remains a central entry in the artist's discography of sophisticated electronic composition.
