Italian industrial pioneer Maurizio Bianchi, operating under his M.B. moniker, is revisited through the 2026 reissue of M.U.U.N.H. 31.04.1982 on Eighth Tower Records. Originally recorded during a decisive phase in 1982, the album captures a moment where Bianchi began refining sound into a stark environment rather than a formal composition. The two-track work strips electronics down to bare impulses, anticipating the development of isolationist dark ambient while remaining rooted in the brutal materiality of early industrial experimentation. This edition is presented as a limited CD of 100 copies within the label’s Archive series, a curatorial framework dedicated to preserving experimental artifacts that once circulated in minute quantities. The recordings have been remastered by Raffaele Pezzella to recover low-level detail and contrast without sacrificing the claustrophobic air and deliberate harshness of the original tapes. By maintaining the friction between prophetic abstraction and technological constraint, the release situates Bianchi’s historical output as a vital precursor to contemporary drone and noise.
