Adverse Camber

Canadian-born, Berlin-based musician Aidan Baker continues his prolific output in 2026 with the release of Adverse Camber, an album that marks a deliberate return to solo electric guitar explorations. Issued by Owl Totem Recordings on August 28, the project is available as a digital release alongside physical editions including a compact disc and a limited red vinyl LP distributed through the Netherlands. Across five tracks totaling nearly forty-eight minutes, Baker utilizes his primary instrument to bridge the gap between meditative, drifting drones and abrasive, noisy textures. The compositions, recorded at Broken Spine Studios in Berlin and mastered by Guillermo Pizarro, seek to hold light and darkness in tension by balancing sparse atmospheric passages with moments of heavy distortion. This work follows a long lineage of experimental and drone-doom releases from the artist, known both for his extensive solo career and his leadership in the duo Nadja. The album’s structure is anchored by the eighteen-minute closing piece, Superelevation, which exemplifies Baker's deconstructive approach to the guitar as a tool for sound design rather than traditional melody. Adverse Camber serves as a focused study in ambient autonomy, situating itself within the year's experimental landscape as a sober reflection on the artist's dualistic sonic identity.
