The Pulse Of Atoms marks the debut collaboration between dark ambient pioneer Brian Williams, known as Lustmord, and influential percussionist Dave Lombardo. Released in October 2026 through Ipecac Recordings, the seven-track album arrives as a long-gestating project between two figures who first met nearly two decades ago through their mutual association with the Melvins. Moving away from the high-intensity thrash metal associated with Lombardo’s tenure in Slayer, the record explores brooding atmospheric drones and spacious noise textures. Lustmord utilizes his signature low-frequency sound design and cinematic field recordings to evoke a sense of cosmic scale, described by the artists as the sound of celestial birth and decay. Lombardo provides abstract percussion and synthesizer layers that align more closely with his experimental work in Fantômas and his collaborations with John Zorn than with traditional rock structures. The album is available in digital, CD, and double-LP vinyl formats, including limited clear and smoke variants. This release situates itself outside of specific genre timelines, bridging Lustmord’s industrial roots with a modern, avant-garde approach to percussion-driven soundscapes.
