Berlin-based composer and sound artist Hainbach returns with Amrum OST, a seventeen-track album released in 2025 that serves as the score for director Fatih Akin’s historical drama. Known for his extensive work with modular synthesis and vintage laboratory gear, Hainbach situates this project within a discography that frequently explores the intersection of experimental electronics and tactile sound design. The foundation of the record is built upon recordings of an aeolian harp captured on the dunes of the North Sea island, fulfilling the director's brief to sonify the wind through musical means. These wind-blown overtones are layered with sparse arrangements featuring an East-German fan organ, a weathered Bechstein upright piano, and rhythmic pulses generated by the artist's signature wall of nuclear test equipment. Mastered by Stephan Mathieu, the album maintains a minimalist aesthetic that balances natural field recordings with cold, industrial textures. Following the film’s premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, the soundtrack stands as a significant electroacoustic contribution to the year’s experimental landscape.
