Entering The Desert

Released in 2017, Entering The Desert is a collaborative album by the Bucharest-based project Alone In The Hollow Garden and the German ritual ambient act Nam-Khar. The record was specifically commissioned as a sonic companion to the eponymous book by author Craig Williams, published through the Canadian esoteric house Anathema Publishing. Across its two expansive tracks, the album synthesizes Dan Serbanescu’s signature throat singing and analogue drones with Nam-Khar’s focus on Tibetan-inspired instrumentation and digital textures. The compositions utilize gongs, singing bowls, and field recordings to mirror the book’s exploration of Gnostic pilgrimage and spiritual asceticism. Originally distributed as a digital supplement for the limited editions of the volume, the work remains a significant artifact of the 2017 intersection between dark ambient sound design and esoteric literature. Both artists are established figures in the genre, known for using ritualistic structures to facilitate meditative and inward-focused listening experiences.
