Released in 2023, 深淵の反射 is an eight-track album by Michigan-based experimental artist Opal Vessel. The project navigates the intersection of dark ambient drone and slushwave, a subgenre characterized by heavily processed, phaser-laden soundscapes and a sense of nostalgic decay. Throughout the release, Opal Vessel prioritizes cavernous atmospheres and slow-moving textures, utilizing density and reverb to evoke the "abyss" suggested by its title. This work follows the artist's established interest in exploring themes of isolation and environmental vastness through prolonged electronic synthesis. As a self-released digital album, it serves as a bridge between internet-born aesthetic tropes and the more oppressive, somber traditions of experimental drone music. The collection highlights a shift toward darker, more textured sound design within the contemporary Michigan underground scene.
