An Empty Fiction

Christine K. debuted her solo project in late 2024 with the four-track album an empty fiction, originally issued as a limited edition cassette through EK Verlag. Based in Nevada, the artist composed the material at the Air Ranch in collaboration with her partner Ester Kärkkäinen, who provided engineering and production under the Himukalt aegis. The record navigates the bleakest corridors of dark ambient and death industrial, drawing aesthetic lineage from foundational labels such as Cold Meat Industry and the Loki Foundation. Sonically, the compositions utilize a dense layering of synths, electronics, and scrap metal, punctuated by the unconventional use of vibrators and Christine’s own vocal contributions. The work is framed as a cathartic exploration of personal grief and systemic frustration, aiming for a sense of transcendence through heavy shadows and black-out misery. While the initial physical run quickly sold out, the album’s standing within the experimental underground led to a subsequent CD reissue by the Italian label Old Europa Cafe. Across its four extended movements, an empty fiction establishes a distinct voice that balances the abrasive textures of power electronics with the atmospheric dread of death ambient.
