Jeîta ou murmure des eaux

A cornerstone of the acousmatic tradition, François Bayle’s Jeîta ou murmure des eaux receives a definitive vinyl reissue in 2026 through the Recollection GRM label in association with Shelter Press. Originally composed between 1969 and 1970, the work was inspired by the discovery of the Jeita Grotto in Lebanon, a vast underground limestone cave system. Bayle, a pioneering figure who managed the Groupe de Recherches Musicales (GRM) for three decades, structured the piece as a 17-movement suite that processes environmental recordings into surreal soundscapes. The sonic palette blends mangled environmental sequences with early synth experiments, aiming to immerse the listener in a world of unleashed energies and figurative sound projections. This LP edition features mastering by Giuseppe Ielasi and layout by Stephen O’Malley, presenting a foundational work of musique concrète that remains a defining entry in Bayle’s extensive discography.
