Pounding

Frank Bretschneider’s 2024 album Pounding, issued by the Raster-artistic Platform in LP and CD formats, is an eleven-track investigation into the mechanics of rhythm and modular synthesis. A co-founder of the seminal Raster-Noton label with roots in the East German underground, Bretschneider has long been defined by a commitment to minimalist precision and structural clarity. In this latest work, he challenges the traditional stability of the electronic groove, presenting pulses and accents as volatile encounters within a continuous, shifting flow. The record is visually complemented by the artwork of Olaf Bender and technically polished by mastering engineer Andreas Lubich, with a dedication to the late promoter Monika Döring. Sonically, it functions as a labyrinth of percussive pulses, leveraging the inorganic textures of his modular setup to create complex, algorithmic atmospheres. Pounding stands as a rigorous entry in the 2024 experimental landscape, further refining Bretschneider’s career-long exploration of the geometry between sound and silence.
